DERBY DAY SOUTHERN STYLE
Saturday, May 4, 5:30 pm
No need to drive the 13 hours and 38 minutes to mess with a crowd of 50,000 people to Churchill Downs to see the “150th Kentucky Derby”! We plan on celebrating and enjoying the fun right here in Carlsberg with our own “Derby Experience”. We will begin with a covered dish supper (everyone brings a dish to share). Prefer that the dish be of a southern fare but what you bring is what we will eat. We will post a list of foods typically found at the Kentucky Derby on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse next to the flyer for this event, should you wish to prepare one of them it would be very nice; remember it is only a suggestion list! The dish can be an appetizer, casserole, salad, Jello, meat, veggie dish or dessert. RAC will provide the ice teas & lemonade. We will also offer a version of the famous “Hot Brown”, slider style. You can plan to eat, enjoy watching the actual Kentucky Derby on our large screen TV and play an entertaining Derby game. You just might want to enjoy a little wagering as well which will be totally optional. The wagers will be simple, 25 cents each for the game we will play; and one dollar per bet for the actual Derby race. The plan is to have a little libation as well, and as always you are always welcome to bring your own beverages of choice. In keeping with Derby traditions (slightly modified) we ask that the Ladies please wear their hats, fascinators, head bands or flowers in their hair. Ladies can also wear a dress should you desire, or shorts, capris and a brightly colored top to accompany your outfit. Gents, we ask that you also sport a hat, whatever kind of hat you have, be it a straw hat, ball cap, or some other kind of funny or interesting hat. If you have suspenders, ties, etc. please consider wearing them with a very colorful shirt (T-shirts are okay). We hope to see lots of color in our attire that evening! This should be an evening packed with fun and I am sure we will enjoy a laugh or two! Chair: Lin Horosky .
